Infertility
Infertility is defined as the failure to achieve a clinical pregnancy after more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. The causes of infertility or reproductive problems include disease and ageing. The infertility problems are treated with infertility drugs and other high-tech procedures.

Folic acid and pregnancy
One of the important things that you can help to prevent your baby with serious birth defects is to get enough folic acid every day. Folic acid plays an important role in the production of red blood cells which helps the baby’s neural tube develop into the brain and spinal cord.

In vitro fertilization
In vitro fertilization is a complex series which is used to treat fertility or genetic problems. It is procedure in which eggs are removed from a women’s ovary. In the laboratory the eggs are fertilized with sperm and then fertilized egg is returned to the women’s uterus. It is one of the assisted reproductive technologies to help infertile couple to conceive a child.

Reproductive endocrinology
Reproductive endocrinology is a branch of medicine or a surgical subspecialty that identifies and treats infertility in both men and women. A reproductive endocrinologist specialise in the following fields in vitro fertilisation, endometriosis, fertility preservation, male factor infertility, a congenital adrenal hyperplasia, other disorders of the female reproductive system.

Fertility preservation
Fertility preservation is defined as the cryopreservation or the effort to help cancer patients retain their fertility. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy often result in reduced fertility, and the patients should be informed prior for fertility preservation and future reproduction.

Intrauterine insemination
Intrauterine insemination is a fertility treatment in which laboratory procedure is used to separate fast moving sperm from more sluggish or non-moving sperm. The treatment involves placing the sperm inside a women’s uterus. The common reasons for decreased sperm mobility are unexplained infertility, ejaculation dysfunction, etc.

Abortions
An abortion is defined as terminating the pregnancy so it does not result in birth of a baby. It is done by removing a foetus or embryo from the womb before the embryo or foetus is capable of independent life.

Uterine infections
Endometriosis is a condition that causes inflammation of women’s uterus. Postpartum infections usually begin in the uterus. Vaginal infections occur when bacteria, fungi or viruses grow in and around the vaginal area. Pelvic infectious disease causes inflammation of the womb.

Enlargement of the uterus
There are several other causes for enlargement of uterus other than pregnancy. The two most common causes for uterine enlargement are uterine fibroids and adenomyosis. The fibroids are benign, muscular tumours that grow in the wall of the uterus and that may cause pain and bleeding.

Pelvic inflammatory disease
Pelvic inflammatory disease is the inflammation of female reproductive organs or genital tract which leads to lower abdominal pain and fever. It is the primary preventable cause of infertility in women and also the most serious complications of a sexually transmitted disease in women. The symptoms include pain during urination, pain around the pelvis, heavy or painful periods.

Ectopic pregnancy
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a foetus develops outside the womb, typically in a fallopian tube. However they can occur in other places other such as ovary, cervix and abdominal cavity. The causes include birth defects in fallopian tubes, endometriosis, surgery of the female organs, etc. The symptoms include abnormal vaginal bleeding, no periods, pain in the pelvic belly or pelvic area, etc.

Low body weight
Low body weight is a term describing a person whose body weight is too low to be healthy. Weighing too little may lead to a weakened immune system, fragile bones and feeling tired. The causes of low body weight may be due to genes, illness, high physical activity, medicines, physiological issues, etc.

Thyroid problems
Thyroid problems occur when there will be no proper supply of hormones from the thyroid gland needed to the body. All types of hyperthyroidism are due to the over production of thyroid hormones. Conditions may sometime occur in several ways such as graves’ disease, pituitary gland malfunctions, subacute thyroiditis, etc.

Pituitary-gland problems
Pituitary gland is the main endocrine gland which produces the hormones and that controls the other glands and many other body functions including growth. It is a pea-sized structure located just below the hypothalamus of the brain region. The pituitary is divided into three sections the anterior intermediate and the posterior lobes. The pituitary gland stores many different hormones.

Infrequent ovulation
Infrequent or abnormal ovulation accounts for all cases of ovulation. Irregular periods, no periods, or abnormal bleeding often indicates anovulation. The primary symptoms of infertility are difficulty in getting pregnant. Other symptoms include scarring in the fallopian tubes, abnormalities in the shape or lining of the uterus, etc.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis
Preimplantation genetic diagnosis is a screening test in which embryos produced through in vitro fertilisation are screened out in order to determine if genetic or chromosomal disorders are present or not. It is a process of removing a cell from in vitro fertilization embryo for testing before transferring the embryo to the uterus.

Tubal factor infertility
Tubal factor infertility caused by an abnormality of the uterine tubes such as scarring, pelvic inflammation, etc. Or it is a disorder in which fallopian tubes are completely blocked or damaged. It is often necessary to undergo additional tests including, hysterosalpingogram and laparoscopy to confirm the diagnosis.

Ovulation
Ovulation is defined as release of mature egg from the ovary, pushed down the fallopian tube and is available to be fertilized. Every month an egg will mature within one of four ovaries. When it reaches its maturity, the egg is released by the ovary where it enters into the fallopian tube to make its way towards waiting sperm and the uterus.
